Every journey begins with that first step. Each September, National Suicide Prevention Month, NAMI Brown County holds NAMIWalks. We walk together to raise awareness of mental illness and raise funds to further our mission.
Each NAMIWalks event brings together people of all ages and fitness levels for a fun 5K walk event. Those who are unable to walk with us are welcome to register and participate as a volunteer or “virtual walker.”
NAMI Brown County has its own NAMIWalks website to register, form a team and raise funds.
Click here to register for NAMIWalks!
Registration is required, but there is no registration fee. Participants are encouraged to build teams and fundraise to support the work of our affiliate.
Participants raising $100 or more will receive a NAMIWalks T-shirt on Walk Day
Annual Summer Picnic
For 20 years NAMI Brown County has sponsored the annual Bay Beach Amusement Park picnic. Free to the public, guests include mental health professionals, leaders in the community, those who live with mental illness, their friends and family members.
Volunteers of the Brown County Alliance on Mental Illness grill brats, hamburgers and hot dogs. Salad dishes are catered in, baked beans are served and there are all kinds of homemade desserts.
And the day always includes free ride tickets! Guests have the chance to ride the Zippin Pippin, Ferris wheel, train, scat, scrambler, tilt-a-whirl or the bumper cars. The fun filled day also includes door prizes, going down the giant slide, and playing bingo for prizes.
NAMI Brown County’s annual GALA is held each May during Mental Health Awareness Month. The fundraiser features a celebrity emcee and includes an Awards Presentation for volunteer and peer of the year, silent auction and keynote speaker.
Proceeds fund educational programs, Peer-to-Peer and Family-to-Family, which are free to the public. Teen Support, Family Support and Peer Support groups are only possible thanks to the monies raised. Through the generosity of those who attend NAMI Brown County is able to meet our three-point mission of advocacy, education and support of those in our community.
